MR. BIG is a stage adaptation written by Brian Knudson, and based on a 1971 short story of the same name by Woody Allen. (MR. BIG was part of a compilation book of Woody’s short stories, titled “Getting Even”). Mr. BIG is about a private detective hired by a femme fatale to find…God. The play is a clever crime caper in the style of film noir, playing on different schools of philosophy. It was originally performed at The Hollywood Fringe Festival last June, garnering strong reviews. After submitting numerous rewrites last spring, Brian was finally granted the adaptation rights by Woody Allen himself! Brian plays the cynical detective while chameleon Catherine Allison adeptly quick-changes through all the supporting roles in this funny two-hander. MR. BIG is full of Woody’s signature humor—-sharp, dry, ironic, introspective and absurd. Audiences with a basic understanding of the ideas of classic philosophers will be particularly tickled by this 20-minute pastiche of hard-boiled detective stories. The play is introduced by Groucho Marx impersonator Tuba Heatherton, who serves up a quick tutorial on the philosophers mentioned throughout the play. Whether you’re a Woody Allen fan, a lover of philosophy, or just love to laugh, this quick burst of noir-styled absurdity is for you!
